‘Cheers! Cheers for the-’
Wait a second! That’s the story’s beginning, not it’s end. Now, let’s start where it all begun - Oceanside, California, three days before Christmas Eve...
‘Monica, hurry up!’
That is Simon Curtis, my eighteen year old friend, who’s hair and eyes are pitch black. And here I am, running after her - Monica Newgate, known as “The Light”. Logical (because of my golden-like hair color and the same contact lens) but also ironical - almost 99% of my clothes are with black color.
That aside, let’s return to the story. Both of us (and yes, Simon’s nickname also is contrasting with her style - “The Dark”) were walking down North Myers Str. - someone was having a party in Wyndham Oceanside Pier Resort and even if we were invited, the bodyguards wouldn’t let us in if we were late. Fortunately, we got there in time. We went ASAP to the room, where the party was supposed to be, and froze when we opened the door - inside, there was no one. Well, actually, there was someone. Four girls, to be exact.
But before I tell you about them, let me tell you about us. What were two girls, who just turned eighteen, doing at a party, held by one of the richest Europeans of the decade? Well, honestly said, we were kind of popular here. For the past six months we were helping the locals - mostly the police but (keep that a secret, okay?) I can’t deny the fact that we’ve also met some ex-mafioso, who needed a cover up, so they won’t be found by their old bosses. Well, no one knows about that last thing. Or almost.
Anyway, let’s continue. Two of the girls were Japanese - obviously, because of their school uniforms. The other two were from Germany - they were speaking in dutch (There’s no way to mistake this language for another. Ever.).
‘Hello!’ I said, as we approached.
‘Hi!’ One of the Japanese girls turned to me. She had black hair with blue clumps (unlike the other girl, most likely her twin, who’s ones were green). ‘I’m Akemi Ryuko and that’s my sister - Ai.’
‘Hi there! Nice to meet you.’ The other girl smiled to us.
‘Nice to meet you, too. My name’s Monica Newgate.’
‘Cool! You have the same name as Whitebeard from One Piece!’
‘Sure.’ Anime fans? ‘And that’s my... Where did she go?!’
‘I’m right here.’ She was on the other side of the hall, standing in front of the wall and watching it.
‘That’s Simon.’ I said to them and went to Her Majesty The Doing-Whatever-I-Want. ‘What’s so interesting about this wall anyway?’
‘That it’s not a wall, in the first place.’
‘What do you mean “not a wall”?’ The second I said it, the lights were off and “the wall” was glooming like a cinema screen.
‘What in the name of...’ Ryuko was standing beside me, shocked of the sudden change.
‘How strange...’ One of the pretty silent germans scared the heck out of me with her creepy voice. I turned towards her and saw the typical brown hair and dark eyes. She was also wearing jeans and a T-shirt, saying “I love chess”. Now, that I thought about it, the other girl looked exactly like this one. Another twins?!
That second on the screen appeared O’Bryn’s face - he was a man with long red hair (strange, huh?), who had a white mask on the right side of his face and was wearing a black coat with golden welts and big flower with the same color. By the way, he was the mentioned “one of the richest Europeans of the decade”.
‘Erm... Welcome, girls from around the world!... Oh?’ He came closer to the camera or whatever it was. ‘What’s with the mood? C’mon, smile, smile! You are the geniuses of the sports, arts and science, after all! Hahaha...’ He pointed his finger at us, the Akemi’s and the twins. Geniuses, huh?
‘Sure...’ Simon had this look, “Yeah, right”, on her face. ‘What’s all of this about?’
‘Now, now. Calm down.’ Was it just me, or O’Bryn was really relaxed? ‘I was just going to explain. Like you know, the presidents of the USA and Russia are going to meet in two days, so they can discuss the problem about the nuclear and chemical weapons.’ The thing just became more interesting. ‘Looks like there’s someone who doesn’t like this. And this someone is going to do something crazy, but frightening enough to make the Devil acknowledge him.’
‘And how exactly will he do that?’ Ai also looked intrigued.
‘I can’t tell you more unless you agree to help us stop him.’
‘Count us in!’ Simon grabbed my shoulder and I nodded (not only because she would have killed me if I didn’t).
‘Us too!’ The Japanese girls were just as excited. As for the other two, they were staying aside without talking. I went closer to them and saw that they had badges with their names on them - Wilhelmina and Xandra van der Mer.
‘How about you? Gonna join?’
‘Of course!’ Wilhelmina said and once again her voice creeped me out. But it was even mor creepy when they laughed together, after Xandra said the following:
‘You guys won’t be able to do it without us.’ After that, they continued in dutch.
‘Looks like everyone participates.’
‘Well, then you all - go outside. We’ll meet soon.’
And so, O’Bryn’s face disappeared and the lights were back. Outside, there was a black car, which send us to the airport. From there we went abord a private jet (which was probably from the same level as Air Force 1 and even higher) - our red haired friend was there, by the way.
Due to him, our target was thirty eight years old guy, named Mu Hei, who was going to blow up the whole island (the meeting was going to be on a neutral island, somewhere in the Pacific Ocean) and all it’s surroundings with some high-tech weapon. For that reason, we, as the newest team in the White Lotos (the name of the organization - actually, the ones, who were supposed to take care of that, were ill and someone had to replace them) had to stop this Mu guy, to neutralize his weapon and stop the mass extermination before it even start...
